Feeding Children –Steiger Minneapolis Satellite

Feeding Children –Steiger Minneapolis packages a highly nutritious blend of rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and dehydrated chicken flavoring.  We have volunteers come in to our warehouse to package this food; this is a great opportunity for people here in Minneapolis to have a huge impact in the lives of children throughout the world.  FCI -Steiger Minneapolis started in May of 2002.  Since then we have packaged and shipped approximately one million meals to people in dire need of nutritious meals.  Our mission is not only to see that our food feeds starving children but it is also that people come to know the love of Jesus through what we do, both over seas and here in the U.S.

Malawi
The majority of the food that we package goes to Malawi, a small country located in south-eastern Africa.  The food is distributed by local missionaries who then give the food to the children who come to the feeding program in Chimbalame which is the squatter-settlement just outside the capital city of Lilongwe.  In this feeding program 450-500 kids are fed each day. 

For most of these children this is their only meal and they would starve if it wasn’t for this food that we send.  The missionaries also distribute this food to the children in their orphanages. 

This food is also distributed to people out in the bush in rural Malawi.  These people have seen incredible devastation from AIDS and least likely to be educated and least affected by the media and outside world.
Altogether about 650 -700 children live off of this food everyday in Malawi!

We sent one container of food (285,000 meals) to Malawi in May of 2004 and plan to ship another container in November of 2005.

Honduras
In August of 2005 we shipped one container of food to Laceiba, Honduras (285,000 meals).  In Laceiba they use our food in their feeding programs and orphanages.

Uganda
In May of 2003 we donated 16 pallets of food (114,048 meals) to go to a refugee camp and an orphanage.
