Merry Christmas!!!

SHIFT
The topics the last two weeks of the school were evangelism and re-entry. On the topic of evangelism we brought in three speakers to introduce a broad range of different tools to point people to Christ. We were privileged to have one of the Steiger International elders, Jake Chaya, come and speak on this topic. During the last week we focused on “Re-Entry,” making the transition from intensive discipleship to living for Christ in normal life. We make it a priority to prepare the students as much as we can since it is a difficult change to make.

The 2007 SHIFT Discipleship School ended on Friday, November 30th with a marvelous banquet. Friends, family, and people from the Salvage Yard came out to celebrate the students for all they’ve accomplished in the last three months. The evening included a meal and graduation speeches from the students and mentors. It’s hard for us to believe that we’ve completed two schools now!

Night SHIFT
This month we are focusing on getting everything ready for Night SHIFT. This is a new aspect of discipleship for our church. We’ve tried to communicate how discipleship is for everyone; with the new classes we are able to invite Christians from all stages of life to experience growth. The first trimester of Night SHIFT will run from the beginning of January through the end of March. The classes we’re offering are Spiritual Disciplines, Hermeneutics: How to Study the Bible, and Compassionate Community Work. We will be offering different classes three times a year to be more flexible for people’s schedules.

The Steiger House
The community meals on Wednesday nights have been packed during the last month. We’re noticing that the cold weather motivates people more toward fellowship. Our house celebrated our 1st year anniversary on December 2nd! We’ve experienced a good time of growing in relationships this year. Next year holds a few changes as one of our house members is getting married and moving to live with her husband. Another one of our housemates will be leaving us to attend the leadership school in New Zealand. We are very excited for them, but we’ve also begun the search for two new housemates. Out of the eleven community houses connected with the Salvage Yard, several of them are going through changes and are open to receiving new house members currently or in the next few months.

How are we doing?
We are slowly beginning to recuperate from the school. Getting more sleep and being more available in the community house is a part of going back to a more normal schedule. Wendy is gearing up for more classes at Bethel Seminary. Her internship is going well, and she’s looking forward to taking Greek for the first time. Noah will be teaching a Night SHIFT course and is busy coordinating this new section of the school.

Please continue praying for our finances. We are learning more and more about faith as we continue to obey the voice of God. Thank-you for your prayers and support!

In Him,
Noah & Wendy Schneider
