Five years ago, Steiger International started a “Radical Missions and Leadership Training School” in New Zealand. I knew the moment I heard about the school that it was for me. I had already been working with Steiger for some time, and the ministry was a perfect fit. But I still had no idea when it would be time to take the work more seriously and prepare to go into missions full time by getting more training. So I kept putting it off. Year by year I finished school, went on different evangelistic tours, and continued to grow and learn by just doing it. Now, after realizing more of what God is raising me up to be, it is finally time to be more proactive in moving towards that next step and take this calling more seriously by furthering my education. God always equips those he calls.
So in 2008, from March 1 – May 8, on the Kapiti Coast of New Zealand, I am planning on attending this intense 11-week program. The school includes lectures, solitude and reflection with God, and weekly outreach that will involve the Suitcase Sideshow. The school is led by David and Jodi Pierce, directors of Steiger, as well as a full panel of experienced and seasoned missionaries from Steiger and other organizations. Its purpose is to grow and develop leaders and missionaries before releasing them to work with Steiger. I can see that God is moving me in the direction of working in missions’ full time as a creative evangelist, so this is my next step. I will be sacrificing time that I usually take to work and make money for the year, but I also believe God will provide what I need as I take this step of faith towards his plan for my life.
Please join with me in prayer as I go to New Zealand and seek God on the next step with the Suitcase Sideshow and other endeavors in missions. I need to raise a total cost of $4,000.00, which includes traveling expenses, food, lodging, and tuition. So far I have saved about $1,200.00 towards the trip, but I cannot do this without the help of the Body of Christ. I am humbly grateful for any support you are able to provide. So if God is calling you to be a part of this and you would like to support me in prayer, as well as with a tax-deductible donation, it would be much appreciated. There are also many other possibilities for the Suitcase Sideshow this year like traveling to the jungle of Nicaragua to translate and record two performances into Mosquito, a tribal language, as well as going to the Rainbow Gathering, a festival in the woods that gathers over 30,000 hippies. So anything extra would go towards these possible projects as well.
Thank you and God bless,
Philip Shorey
